#SeattleBound

I absolutely love where technology is has been going in the last couple years. The merger of technology and life as we know it is becoming closer and closer to becoming complete. Things like FlipBoard for the iPad and the Sixth Sense Project all just make me giddy inside. Just the other day, I saw something that will probably change my whole perspective on the way I look at the world around me.

As I was driving home from work, I noticed a Jeep with some of that window marker on the back windshield. I couldn’t quite make it out until I got a little closer. All it said was “#seattlebound”. It took me a few seconds before I realized that it was a hashtag for Twitter. It was awesome seeing that. People in the world are changing how they communicate.

If I had seen this car a couple years ago, it would have read “Honk! We’re going to Seattle!” or “Seattle or Bust!”. I would have seen that writing, honked my horn, maybe waved at them and then been on my way home. Instead, I was able to search Twitter for the hashtag, see the profiles of the guys that were in the Jeep, see all of their tweets, the fun they have been having and see the pictures they had been posting along their trip. To top it all off, I was able to send them a tweet saying I saw them on the road and it started a conversation. A conversation that never would have existed, had it not been for Twitter.

The ways that people communicate have been changing for a long time. I really love the direction that it is going in right now. There are so many opportunities and possibilities. I hope that other people start to see these possibilities and start that conversation that never could have existed five years ago.

What do you think? Is technology making it easier for people to communicate or is it making us more likely to lock ourselves away and never see anyone face-to-face again?
