Two Years Later, Howcast Is Streaming 25 Million How-To Videos Monthly

Two years ago, former Google employees Jason Liebman, Daniel Blackman, and Sanjay Raman launched Howcast, a site filled with original instructional videos about every topic under the sun (see “How To Deal With A Mean Boss”).  At this point, Howcast is streaming 25 million videos a month across its network, which includes its own main website, and its channels on YouTube and Hulu.  This number has more than doubled since this time last year.

Sure, YouTube streams more than 12 billion videos monthly, but 25 million is very respectable for a niche network.  Of course, this is a very large niche, but Howcast still deserves some credit.  Its YouTube channel alone is listed in the top 100 channels, has about 100 million views and more than 111,000 subscribers.

Howcast produces all of its own videos with a network of freelance filmmakers.  It provides them with scripts, graphics, voiceovers, and a nice wad of cash (usually around $50 for a 2 or 3 minute video).  Howcast pushes out about 1,000 how-to videos monthly.

Howcast has a long way to go, but after two years, with its 35 employees, it is moving along decently.
